Composer ringtones are compatible with the following Nokia phones only:
Nokia 3210, 3310, 3330, 3390, 3395, 5120, 7650 and 8250.
If you have any of the Nokia phones listed above, you can easily and quickly
enter ringtones into your phone. On this page you will find all the information
you need to help you get the ringtone you want for your cell phone. First read
the general information below and then choose the specific instructions
depending on which Nokia mobile phone you own. You can download Nokia composer
codes from
here.
The keypad of your Nokia phone is used to enter the notes, and change their
duration and pitch.

First of all, decide which ringtone you want to enter onto your phone by
browsing here.
Enter the desired notes. For example, press [4] for note f. The phone plays
each note after it is entered (unless the phone tones are off).
To adjust the characteristics of the note, do as follows:
Note duration: [8] shortens (-) and [9] lengthens (+) the duration of the note
or rest. The default duration is 1/4. The duration is shown in front of the
note, e.g. 16d denotes a note d with duration 1/16.
Pressing and holding a note key lengthens the note by half, indicated by a dot
after the duration, e.g. 8.a.
Rest: [0] inserts a rest (i.e. pause) of the same duration as the previous note.
The default duration of a rest is one quarter note (1/4). The rest is indicated
by the - character.
Octave: [*] sets the octave for new notes. The octave is shown as a number after
the note (e.g. e1).
Pitch: [#] makes the note sharp (indicated by # in front of the note), e.g. #f.
The pitch selection is not available for notes e and b.
Once you've keyed the ringtone in, Save it with whatever name you want. Then go
back to the Ringing tones section of your phone and select the ringtone to
ring from the list so that it rings when someone calls you.

Press Menu, scroll through to, and enter the Tones section.
Select the Composer function and if this is the first time you've used it
you'll see a blank screen. If you have previously entered a ringtone you will see a

before, correspond to the notes that the phone will play. Choose Options
and scroll up to Clear screen to remove any previous ringtone you may have
entered.
Find the code you want and then key it in, taking care not to key it in too
quickly (the phone can be slow sometimes!!) or miss out any digits. If a mistake
is made the ringtone will not sound right.
When you've keyed it in, choose Options then Tempo to select
the corresponding Tempo setting. Once that's done, select Options and
then Play to listen to it. If it doesn't sound right, choose Options

someone calls, in the Tones section. Select the Ringing tone and
scroll to the name of the ringtone you just saved and select OK. Don't forget
that you can also assign a different ring tone to different people by choosing
that option from the Phone Book section
It is possible to have two Composer ringtones on the 3210 this is done by sending
yourself a ringtone that you have keyed in. When you've keyed the ringtone in, instead
of saving it select Options and then Send. Type in the name of the
ringtone, select OK and then enter your phone number and select OK
again. You will then hear your 'message alert' tone (the one you hear when
you've received a text message). Select Playback to hear it, Save
to save it or Discard to delete it. When you save it it will be stored at
the bottom of the list of default ring tones. To select it as your ring tone
select Menu>Tones>Ringing Tone and scrolling up or down to it and
selecting OK.

How to compose your own ringtone
 |
1=C 2=D 3=E 4=F 5=G 6=A 7=B
8 shortens the note
9 lengthens the note
* changes the octave (1,2,3)
0 inserts a rest (pause)
# changes the note to a sharp

Those with a little musical knowledge should know that there are 7 principle
notes: c d e f g a b, but there are 12 notes in total: c c# d d# e f
f# g g# a a# b
(c# d# f# g# and a# can also be called d flat, e flat, g flat, a flat and b
flat!)
The Nokia phones' keypad takes the place of a musical key board (see pic
above)
EXAMPLE:
Starting with a blank screen, pressing 1 2 3 will give you a display of:
which means:
- 4c1 = a note of c, in octave 1 for a duration of 1/4
- 4d1 = a note of d, in octave 1 for a duration of 1/4
- 4e1 = a note of e, in octave 1 for a duration of 1/4
Simple huh?
Pressing 1 2 # 3 will give you a display of:
which means:
- 4c1 = a note of c, in octave 1 for a duration of 1/4
- 4#d1 = a note of d sharp, in octave 1 for a duration of 1/4
- 4e1 = a note of e, in octave 1 for a duration of 1/4
Still with me?
Pressing 1 2 8 3 9 * will give you a display of:
which means:
- 4c1 = a note of c, in octave 1 for a duration of 1/4
- 8d1 = a note of d, in octave 1 for a duration of 1/8
- 4e2 = a note of e, in octave 2 for a duration of 1/4
See, it's not that difficult, is it!
Now try this:
Tune:
4g2 8.#a2 16g2 16- 16g2 8c3 8g2 8f2
Key presses:
5 * (6) 8 # 5 8
0 5 1 9 * 5 * * 4
- The first note is 4g2
that means the note 'g' that lasts a quarter of a note length in octave 2. The
first press is [5] this corresponds to the note 'g'. The next press is
[*] since the default octave is 1 we need to press the octave key to
change to octave 2. This note is complete and we move on to the next.
- The second note is 8.#a2
this looks complicated but it follows the same rules as before. It means note
'a' of length 1/8 plus 50% in octave 2 and it's sharp (what ever that means.)
Since the note is 'a' we have to press [6] only this time we
have to hold it as indicated by the fact it is in brackets in order to
increase the length by 50% (i.e. make the dot.) The next key press is [8]
this is to change the length. The length needs to be reduced by 1 step as 1/8
is less than 1/4 and the sequence of lengths available are, from longest to
shortest, 1/1 1/2 1/4 1/8 1/16 1/32 The final key press is [#] that is
to make the note sharp.
- The 3rd note is 16g2
it should be obvious now how to do this but well look it here as well. The
note is 'g' in octave 2 of length 16. Hence we press [5] for note 'g'
followed by [8] to reduce the length to 1/16
- The 4th note 16- is
not really a note but a pause. It is a silence of length 1/16. Pauses don't
have octaves and can't be sharp. In this case the length is already set for us
by the previous note so we just press [0] and this note is done.
- The 5th note 16g2 is
again simple as we inherit both the length and the octave from the previous
note so we just press [5] which corresponds to note 'g'.
- The 6th note 8c3
means we have to change both the length and the octave. First, as always, we
press [1] for note 'c'. The following operations (length and octave)
can be carried out in either order, we will follow that suggested by the
program I wrote to generate the key presses. So we press [9] to
increase the length (remember 1/8 is longer than 1/16) followed by [*]
to change the octave.
- The 7th note is 8g2.
This is simple except we have to change the octave from 3 to 2. Press [5]
for note 'g'. The octave can not be reduced but follows the order 1 - 2 -
3 - 1 - 2 - 3 -1 - etc. So we press [*]] [*] i.e. twice.
- The 8th note 8f2 just
requires a press of the [4]
The sequence covers pretty much
everything so now all you have to do is play it. Select a tempo of 100 and play,
it should sound like Axle F. Good Luck.
