I bought this phone in 2003 and it was a pretty nice phone back then. I figured it would last till my contract was up. Boy was I wrong! Never got reception, although that is a problem with Verizon. about 14 months into having the thing it startednot ringing when someone would call. Thus I would get the voicemail notification between 10-40 minutes after it was left. This happened also with text messages. The display started going and by the time i got it replaced was gone. When I tried to send calls it would show that it had FULL DIGITAL service, and it would sit there and then it would go to one bar of Digital service and then go into Analog until it would then say it had no service. Now keep in mind the call is still not connecting and I'm sitting there trying to make a call. I would have to go through this process and shut down the phone 3 times. I had it down to a science. Then a few weeks ago 3 times didnt work anymore. I shut the thing off 12 times before I decided to go back to Verizon to get a replacement. Now I have a "new" one and its screen is starting to go. It has no reception, and now as I am typing its stuck on Analog has no time nor does it even say Verizon Wireless on the display. This phone is the worst thing that you could ever buy; although i think that they dont sell them anymore. I cant wait till the middle of June to get my new non-LG phone! This piece of garbage is going to meet my hammer face to face.

I have had this phone for about two years and I have replaced it over 4 times. Everytime the display breaks. One time the charge never held and would run out in about fifteen minutes. The phone in general is terrible. I would stay away from this phone as best you can!

I have replaced this phone for the third time in about 6 months. This one seems to work but the ringer is worthless, if you have it in your pocket you wll not hear it. It can't take personal ring tones and has a poor system for storing phone numbers.

While reading the reviews on this page, i had to laugh. the problems mentioned were the exact same problems i have, to the T. For a while now i have noticed that every day a new ink bar on my outside display is missing. its gotten to the point where i cant read who is calling me because all the letters are deformed (good thing im paying for caller ID right?). As well, the bottom half of my phone often becomes loose, shutting the phone off, so i constantly have to carry around a mini-screwdriver. The third problem i read, which i deal with also, is that unless the phone is placed EXACTLY perfect on the charger, the phone will not charge, and often i have had it die quicker because it wasn't on properly and this used up the battery. I liked this phone when i got it, but at this point it is very outdated, and in my opinion, a phone should last longer than it did. I have just ordered a new phone which will hopefully be better. i do not recomend this phone. The one thing however which is good, i have dropped it on pavement MANY times and it still works (not sure if thats a good thing, now that i think about it)... DO NOT BUY.

Display died and Verizon refused to fix it.

Got the phone for my wife. She didn't use it very much, but for a while it was the basic communication device that she needed. Then the outside display started to go. Little by little the characters failed to appear, until finally the screen became blank. Some months later, heard from some friends that this was a common problem for this phone. Took it to 2 different Verizon locations thinking they'd do the right thing. They refused to fix it or replace it for free because we brought it in approx. 15 months after buying the phone and the warranty was only 12 months. Didn't matter to them that the problem started in less than 12 months. Also didn't matter to them that this problem is so common that it's obvious that a large part of the production line was defective. My wife's and son's phone contracts expire in a couple of months. Can hardly wait to get away from Verizon. Don't know what happened. They used to care about customer satisfaction. Now they don't stand behind their products.

I've had an LG VX10 for about 18 months and it has served its purpose, but just recently the display went haywire and completely died. It can still place and receive calls, but without the ability to see what you're doing on it makes it pretty useless.

only negative is loudness of ringtones

I've had this phone for about 1 year. It works and sounds great! The only things that I don't like are the musical sounding ringtones and the loudness of the incoming ring. Every review you can read about this phone usually says something about the ring volume. Although it is true that when the phone receives a call the ringtone is much louder than when you manually adjust the setttings in the menu options, the reason this phone does not ring loud enough is because there is no outside speaker on the lid of the phone!!!!!! When the phone rings, the inside speaker is covered up by the other half of the phone. Instead of the sound ringing towards the outside of the phone, it gets muffled by being closed together. I really do like this phone but I drive a truck which is loud in the cab, and many times I miss a call because the speaker is covered up and therefor the sound muted! If you get an incoming call, just open the phone up a little while it is ringing and you will notice how it gets louder because the speaker isn't as muffled. Like I said GREAT working phone but my next one will have an external speaker. I have not had one mechanical problem with this LG phone.

Not the greatest phone

This phone is definitely a no frills phone. I've had this phone for 10 months and it's failing big time. The phone does what is says it does. It makes calls. But the volume controls is not the greatest. To adjust most of the volume controls (ear volume, ring volume ..) you have to go into a menu. Charging the phone is also a challange you have to make sure it sits perfect on the charger. Also my display on the front and the back is defective. Seems to be common on these phones. I took the phone into verizon to get it replaced. The Customer Service rep took my phone to look at it. He took it to the back office for 5 min. Comes back and told me the warranty was void because it got wet. I ask how he knew this. He took off the battery and showed me a hole with an indicator that was red. He told me it was to be white. Red meant it got wet. Well I never got the phone wet. I asked why he took it the back. He said he had something to do. My belief is that he didn't want to deal with replacing my phone and voided my warranty to make things easy for him. Any ways Never doing business verizon or buying any lg phone.

i've owned this phone for 15 months and it was an okay phone.. but a few weeks ago i'd open the phone and the screen would be gone.. just died. i could still make and receive phone calls, but not knowing who was calling or text messaging me drove me crazy! the reception on this phone isn't bad in town, but i get no reception in my house. i just got the phone replaced yesterday and had to re-add all of my data b.c. the verizon store wanted to charge me $15 for it!! overall this phone is average, but when my 2 year mark comes around i'm definitely upgrading to a totally different phone

As for the ring volume, it is just fine for normal use. I can hear it in my pocket at a race track with loud cars driving around the track. If you are in a position where you can't here your cell phone ringing there is no way you will be able to hear the person on the other end...
First the Cons. There is no way to disable the auto answer when the phone is flipped open. This really isn't a problem, because the LCD display on the back will list the caller ID information. The phone book isn't outstanding and some info can be hard to find in the menus.
For the Pros, the reception on the phone is excellent. It will work most places without the antenna extended. If the reception is weak, just extend the antenna. The phone is very simple and straightforward to use. The menu's are logical and easy to navigate. The display is very easy to read in most lighting conditions. It has a manner mode and a normal mode. In manner mode the phone will vibrate (or just flash a light), and not make any other noise. It is easy to switch between modes, just hold the * key for 1 or 2 seconds and it will switch. Finally the battery life is good, I get at least 2 or 3 hours of continuous talking, and 4 or 5 days plus in standby mode (I have never tested how long it will go in standby).
I bought this phone because it had the features I need, and not those I dont. I didn't want a color screen, waste of battery life. I really didn't care about ring tones or games. Both of which can be downloaded if you want them from BREW. If I want a camera, I will buy a real digital camera and not a crappy one on the phone. I bought this phone because of the audio/reception performance and it's simplicity. It was easily worth the money, and would buy one again.
