This would be an oustanding phone, save for this problem; it turns off by itself from time to time. Since it's a flip phone, and the cover is closed most of the time, you're not aware that it's turned itself off. I've had this problem with two of these now (same model), and one of them is starting to turn off if you even close the cover.
It's too bad. I've no complaints about sound quality, battery life, or range. All have been good. But the phone is, to put it bluntly, unreliable.
As for all of the comments along the lines of "it sux0rs, man, no ringtones or songs, dude"....hey, it's a d@mn phone, not an Ipod.

i have had my phone for about 3 years now and it works perfectly. if it weren't for the great service this phone provided I could have gotten stranded in the mountains last winter. For all these negative comments on this phone I believe it your service provider that gives you bad service not the phone.

I would be lucky to get one phone call per week with it. The thing would not get service anywhere except for the cell phone dealer. The battery life was next to nothing. I got so fed up with the junky phone i went and bought a lg-tm510 and it works great!!
through away the lg vx3100 and buy a 510 or a samsung

Verizon Refuses to Fix the Problem

You must first initiate a call before it can receive a call. This they tell me is "normal" for Wireless phones. Two calls for help and 3 visits to a Verizon store have not solved the problem. They say it is my problem. I have another 11 months to go with this piece of crap. Try any other service or phone but not Verison or the LG VX3100.

well my mother bought the phone for me and my sister a while back with that buy one get three free plan. the phone works well in city areas and close suburbs, but don't take it out in the boondocks cause you'll lose service. overall if you just want something to send and recieve calls then buy it, but, if you want something special you mind as well buy another phone.

This phone is so great. I love it, you can change the banner. One that sucks is that there is no ringtones, but you can find faceplates on the internet for a good price. It also comes with a beltclip, I got my through Celullar South and it works great. I also love the light that lights up when you get an incoming call or a text message.
I love this phone!

I HAVE THIS PHONE NOW AND I HAVE A TWO YEAR CONTRACT AND I CAN'T UPGRADE UNTIL NEXT YEAR OF JAN. 19 2005. I HATE THIS PHONE IT ONLY WORKS WHEN IT WANTS TO WORK!! ITS STUPID MY FRIENDS TALK ABOUT IT ALL THE TIME! NO DOWNLOADING RINGTONES, SCREENSAVER, OR PICTURES!

i hate this phone, it never has any service and then goes into this "emergency only" mode where you can't dial out or recieve calls.
