this phone really sucks. my phone also recently went into "downloading mode" and its been pissing me off ever since. it would start back up again once in awhile, but after a few minutes, it goes back to downloading mode.

If I could, I will give it minus 5 stars.
This phone worked OK until Feb 1. When it went into coma with either "downloading mode" or "fs_dir.c" screen savers. The usual tricks of unplug the battery won't work. All the fancy buttons won't work. Feeling desparate, I went to the store where I bought it, the guy asked for 50 bucks to have it just looked at. I refused. I left the dead cell phone in my car that night, where outside temeprature was below feezing. Next morning I was overjoyed when I could switch it on. Only to be dismayed in a few minutes, when a warmed up phone went to downloading mode again. I nearly completed a phone call in that span! After reading a previous poster's experience, I am keeping my samsung in the freezer too. This actually works! I got a slogan for samsung.
Samsung, it's the freezer you belong.

I loved this phone at first and wondered why everyone had such bad reviews. I've always been very careful with my phone not to drop it, but it finally died the other day while I was on a call. It froze up and went into downloading mode. Now it won't even turn on. I ordered a new one from the insurance company and it randomly turns itself off. I found that if I put my phone in the FREEZER it will work when I take it out for a few minutes so I can get the phone numbers off my phonebook. It's so hilarious. After it warms up it freezes up again and back to the freezer it goes.!!!

I haven't even had this phone for 18 months and its already falling apart. As of right now the two pieces of the flip phone are being held together with duct tape and in order to keep it closed when its in my purse, I have to put a rubber band around it. And if you're on the phone for more than 5 minutes, you better have an ice pack near by because your face will be burning up. The ringtones suck, you can't download anything. don't buy this phone.

This phone sucks butt. I mean when i first got it for my birthday back in 2003 it was the best thing in the world till recently when i noticed how hot it got after 5 min of a convo. It would freeze and u wouldn't even notice it! And then it would drop calls out of the blue. And thats not even the worst part whenever someone calls me now they cant hear me! y does it do that its so annoying. Hello i thought i was supposed to be paying verizon a phone bill for a phone that works not for a freakin piece of junk! Ive been to Verizon plently of times and they've told me that its my problem, after reading most of these reviews ive noticed im not the only. Whoever is reading this review dont but the phone trust me it'll put u through hell!

Well, I got my phone as a birthday present in April of 2003. I was set up with a 2 year contract, but I didnt mind because I actually really liked it when I got it. I thought I was so cool because I had one of those fancy flip phones haha. The reception was really great and so was the battery life. I hated the ring tones though, and I hated the fact that you couldn't download any.
But whatever, I got over it.
I didnt start having a problem with it until a couple of months ago (which would lead the phone to be 19 months old) I started noticing little cracks on the part that connected the screen and the keypad together. I didnt think much of it, because I figured it would just stay like that....
nope.
It got progressively worse!
It wasnt even from dropping it either.
But finally, one day it fell and the phone broke in 2 pieces. (FYI:the phone wasnt even flipped open when it happend)
I showed it to my dad and he brought it over to the Verizon store...I mean, I couldn't not have a cell phone for 5 months! The Verizon people replaced it, but for like $50 bucks and with the same exact phone b/c of my contract.
So this new phone hasnt been a problem...same exact way it was before my phone friggen died on me. But I kinda want another phone since this model is now kinda old.
If you don't really use cell phones often, then I totally recommend it.
If you're a teen (like me) then I recommend it too, but not for a 2 year period. If you're goin for a 2 year contract, go with something else.

This is one of the worst phones ever. This phone has weak signal reception and an even weaker battery. I have brought it in to Verizon twice in the first year I had it for battery replacement. They blamed it on the amount of time I charge it for, which was the instructed 4hrs. Then when the headset requirement became mandatory, I bought one of course. Now, people can not hear me unless I have it on. I am 18 mos in to my 2 yr contract and refuse to buy another phone for full price. I still have 4 more months until they will give me $100 towards a new phone promotion. Unreal!!! I think in cases like this they should wave that time frame.

Hinges Break With Normal Use

We've had two of these phones. The hinge by the light is weak. Both phones have broken at the same point after normal, limited use.
This is clearly an engineering/manufacturing defect. Verizon's reponse was the phone must have been opened, turned upside down and pressure applied. This wasn't the case. Who really does that with their phone? The phone's quality is very poor.

I've had this phone for over a year, and it's the worst one I've ever owned. Sometimes it looks like it's working, then you realize that it's not, that it froze up. Thereupon you remove the battery to reboot it, call your voice mail and find out you have 10 messages from people who couldn't get through. Verizon denied any problems with the phone. I'll never buy any kind of Samsung product ever again. Wouldn't trust them. Am in the market for a big screen tv and just walk by the Samsungs.

I got this phone for my birthday and i liked having a phone but would have prefered any other phone! The only positive thing i have to say about this phone is that it worked even after being dropped in the ocean! But it had a shit battery, horrible ringtones, and a annoying echo that killed most of my calls that weren't dropped or cut short by the battery! I got so fed up with it that i stopped using it 2 months before my contract was up and got another cell phone from cingular! i paid 2 cell phone bills so i wouldn't have to deal with this phone!
