Good phone at 1 time or another...

When I first purchased this phone about 2 yrs ago, it was an absolute must have. It had the ability to connect to the web, slim, downloadable ringtones, and screen savers. It was really handy when I traveled. I could just access the wireless web, go to search, either enter the zip or the city and state, what I was looking for (ie: business name or category) and it would give me distance, phone number and address. That is until a certain cellular company decided that they would do away with that service. So I was forced to upgrade. But I would recommend this phone to anyone that wasn't that big on technology and just wanted a good quality phone. I do admit that it does tend to get a little hot after a long period of usage. But overall, I've known it to get excellent reception (I live in Norfolk VA and I have been able to get a good signal in tunnels.) The battery life is pretty good. If you invest in a leather case, which may cost you about $7 - $8 online, you can prevent alot of damages if dropped.

LCD Screens are Horrible

My LCD screen does not work after a year of using the phone. I liked it for it's cost and no frills....never had a real problem with battery life....or keys being hot.....but the screens are horrible and make the phone unusable unless you know your speed dial #'s by heart. Don't recommend it, it's a waste of money since you have to replace it in a year.

LCD Failure

The LCD screen failed at 10 months. Sprint manager told me it was very common with this phone. Not a lot of accesories available but I'm pretty much no frills anyway. Pretty good reception and coverage but privacy is lacking with ear speaker design.

The phone is a piece of junk. The lcd screen stopped working on two of the sph-a460 phones that I had.

The phone itself is light, ergonomic, and durable. Mine's hit pavement several times and only suffered minor scratches. However, I don't recommend the washing machine. The volume buttons on the side help to silence a call at an unwanted time or adjust the volume without using a menu. There is no standard ring similar to one out of a landline, but it's not a great annoyance. The phone does get hot after about 4-5 minutes of talktime, but because its thin and powers an external LCD (helpful as a clock), it's expected. The backlight on the keys helps at night when trying to make out keys, and the OK button is a lot simpler to use than some of the menu toggles on other phones. Mine hasn't flat-out dropped any calls under Sprint PCS coverage, but in 1 out of 10-15 calls there's a slight and temporary tinny echo in the phone. Also, the phone's not for the intimate conversation. The passenger in a car or a close bystander can easily make out what's being said with the volume from 6-8. Other than that, the phone has worked well with simple functions.

Either Sprint or Phone, or both, make reception terrible! I cannot receive phone calls even inside of my house which is located in a very populated area.

Cons - 1.no standard ringtone, 2.can't download to it, therefore if you need to change phone book you have to do it manually and you can't change ringtone, 3.very hot, 4.battery life stinks, 5.minimal accessories, and 6. phone number modification from phonebook is NOT intuitive and very aggrevating; Pros - great reception, that's all. I will get a newer model soon!

Nice design/lacks options/still good

1) The a460 has a great design. This fact has kept me from buying any other PCS presently out. The Sanyo 8100 and 5300 keys are annoyingly small.
2)The phone doesn't support PCS Vision, so don't expect many options in the way of downloadable ringtones or wallpaper. There are absolutely NO standard ringtones (all musical).
3) The phone itself is capable of holding a good, strong signal. It is simply Sprint PCS that has the problem supplying the signal most of the time.
4) Predictive Text is absolutely annoying in the calendar. Don't know how to disable it.

This is a nice phone for people who want no basic features at all, but still want the flip phone design. It offers a cool blue background/keypad and wireless web access, but its battery life is terrible and the keypad gets incredibly hot while you're talking on this phone (if you've used it you know what I'm talking about, and I'm not exaggerating-- it gets dang hot to the touch). Also within a few days of getting my first one I had the external LCD just shut off and not work anymore. I think its a piece of crap, but it may serve those looking for a basic no-frills phone.
